Details of Southwest Chapter April 13th Event

You are invited to a

Spring Wildflower Walk

Sponsored by the

 Southwest Chapter of the Indiana Native Plant and Wildflower Society (SWINPAWS)

April 13, 2013

 Come enjoy the botanical richness and beauty of Ouabache (Wabash) Trails Park in Knox County, near Vincennes, Indiana.  Experience native plants and wildflowers in the variety

of habitats preserved  in this 254-acre county park.  There will be opportunities to find

native plants of woodland and wetland, along streams, and near the Wabash River

floodplain. Walks will be led by SWINPAWS members Michael Broz, Terri Talarek King,

 and Linda Wilcox.  Park brochures/maps and Ouabache Trails plant lists will

 be available at the walks.

Refreshments will be available
at Hedstrom Shelterhouse before the morning walk.

 10:00 am Morning Woodland Walk with Michael Broz – Trail 1 (meet at Hedstrom Shelterhouse near park office – restrooms nearby) Trail 1 is Easy, with non-variable

 11:30 pm – SWINPAWS meeting/lunch at Hedstrom Shelterhouse (bring your own food 

and drinks) 

12:30 pm Afternoon Wetland Walk with Terri Talarek King – Trail 7 (meet at Sacajawea Shelterhouse in lower park area – restrooms nearby)Trail 7 is Easy, with very little
variable terrain around the wetland.  If the group wants to gofurther, this walk can extend

 into a variable terrain area above the wetland.

 Some optional items hikers might want:       
Camera, Binoculars, Magnifying lens or loupe, Notebook/Journal    
Wildflower field guide (we recommend Field Guide to Indiana Wildflowers by

Kay Yatskievych, and Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide, but any guide for Eastern

North America would be fine) For questions or more information

Ouabache Trails Park features
rental cabins (with many amenities) and a nice campground that accommodates

to Ouabache/Wabash Trails Park – Vincennes, Indiana

From US-41 or US-50 take the Vincennes 6th
St exit, (third exit north of the Hart St. exit).  It is about 2-1/2 miles to the park from the
6th St. exit and there is signage to lead you there, or you can follow the
directions below:

Continue on 6th St. to the first stop
light. Turn RIGHT onto Old Wheatland
Rd./Executive Blvd. Take Old Wheatland Rd/Executive Blvd. to N. 2nd
St. Turn RIGHT at the stop sign onto
N. 2nd St.   St. and then take an immediate LEFT onto old SR 67. Continue on old SR
67 to the next left. Turn LEFT onto
Old Terre Haute Rd.  Continue to Fort
Knox Dr. (just before the RR tracks) Turn RIGHT
onto Fort Knox Dr.  Continue on Fort Knox
Dr. which leads straight to the park entrance.
